Alice in Chains in a Nutshell

Loud Alien Noize

rip-layne

Alice in Chains’ Layne Staley was found dead in his Seattle home on a Friday evening, the 19th of April 2002; he was 34.  Staley had apparently been deceased since the 5th in his Seattle condo. Staley avoided the media and rarely left his home. He was found dead two weeks after overdosing. His mother and stepfather had become alarmed when they were notified that Staley had stopped withdrawing money from his bank account. They called the police, who broke into his home and discovered his corpse on the couch, decomposed beyond immediate recognition. TY for helping me remind people that Layne Staley was mcuh more than a helpless junkie. I cannot begin to imagine the pain and suffering he must have gone throught. I bet it hurt him even more to see that it took 2 weeks before anyone noticed he was MIA. This guy had a really good voice and his musical input in Alice in Chains was definitely huge. RIP Mr Staley…. I hope you are in a better world now, reunited with the love of your life.

Thanks for the post. One of the things about AIC is their reputation for musical integrity-a reputation that you hear about on “the street”. I remember one friend commenting in the early ’90s, “They have the lyric-Jesus Christ, deny your maker.-they’re much darker than Metallica.” Another commented, “They never sold out.” As for his body after he died, being that he was a hermit for 5 years, I suspect he did not care about it at all. You’ve inspired me to a short follow-up post!
